Lake Velence and its surroundings offer a wide range of activities for nature lovers and those interested in cultural programmes. If you are looking for an active holiday, discover the sights in the area around the lake on two wheels!
Velence Resort & Spa is a specifically child-friendly hotel, where thought is given to the youngest guests as well. We have a playroom called the Hempergő, where the little ones accompanied by their parents can drop by at any time, a children’s pool equipped with imaginative, amusing elements, the three-level Jungle Playhouse, Play Island and a lakeside playground.
They can meet Ele-Philip and Ele-Fanny, our hotel’s life-size mascots, every day. In peak periods, they also dance with the children in the evening Mini Disco.
In compiling our information booklet, we have tried to faithfully present our hotel’s varied services and things to see and do in the area around the lake. We hope you will find it useful, and that it will help make your stay complete and unforgettable.
Please share with us your pleasant experiences on the pages of the guest book and, if we have not been able to meet all your expectations, please tell us your constructive comments in person.
On behalf of all my colleagues at the hotel, I wish you a pleasant stay.
Péter Bársony
Hotel Manager
GENERAL INFORMATION
Our hotel is a complex composed of several units lying directly on the shore of Lake Velence.
The reception is located on the ground floor of the main building (Building 1) next to Papa’s Bar. The hotel’s Velence Restaurant providing half board is located on the first floor, as are a 24-hour playroom called the Hempergő and a net playground suspended “in the air”. The main building houses the Deluxe rooms with a bathtub and the two-room Deluxe suites with a panorama over the lake.
Facing the main entrance, Building 2 is to the left. This is where the Standard rooms, the Superior rooms with shower, the connecting rooms, the Superior plus rooms with a larger floor space and a bathtub as well as the suites with 2 bedrooms and a sitting room/kitchen are situated.
The different buildings are connected by an enclosed corridor on the first floor.
This corridor leads to the Sanse Café & Restaurant. More information about our catering establishments is given in a separate section of this booklet.
Continuing along the passageway, you come to Play World, which includes Play Island, the Jungle Playhouse for two age groups and Ele-Club, the venue for animation events. Walking on, you reach the 3,600 m2 water park on two storeys. The spa includes indoor and outdoor adventure pools, medicinal pools, children’s pools and a sauna park, and offers pampering massages, beautifying body treatments and facials to fully relax and reinvigorate guests.
Access to your room and movement between certain parts of the building is ensured by a wristband fitted with a chip, which you will receive from reception staff on arrival. Please wear the wristband throughout your stay. The receptionist will help remove it when you depart.
The room card handed over at the time of the check in only serves the room’s power supply and has no other function. The chip is worth HUF 2,000. Please report any damage to the wristband or chip to our reception staff immediately. If the chip is not returned to the hotel reception on departure, its value will be charged to the bill for your room.
Please note that a CCTV system operates in the hotel for your own safety.

The Bird Reserve is located in the western bay of the lake and is part of the Duna-Ipoly National Park landscape protection area. Here, with a good pair of binoculars, there is a unique opportunity to spot rare birds. Patches of floating vegetation provide unusual and highly important habitats. These are formed of dead aquatic vegetation where marsh fern, tufted sedge, several species of peat moss, marsh nettle and the rare fen orchid grow. These slowly-drifting floating islands play a vital part in maintaining water quality by filtering and acidifying the alkaline water of the lake. The area can only be visited with a permit and accompanied by a qualified guide. |

KEMPP Military Memorial Park |
The Military Memorial Park in Pákozd is located on a 1.6 hectare site around the obelisk erected in 1951 to commemorate the battle of Pákozd-Sukoró on 29 September 1848. It came into being in its current form in September 2002 through a civil initiative involving 11 organisations with the aim of presenting the major events in the history of the Hungarian Defence Forces established in 1848 and raising a fitting monument to the heroic commitment of Hungary’s soldiers over the last 160 years. |
The completed 1848 Memorial and Memorial Museum remembers the soldiers and militiamen who fought heroically in the first victorious battle of the 1848 war for Hungarian independence; the River Don Chapel commemorates the soldiers who fell in World War II, and the Hungarian Peacekeeping Monument and exhibition are intended to present the devotion to duty of modern soldiers. The development of the Memorial Park continues as resources become available. In 2008-09 preparations were made for the memorial of the battles of World War I and the Heroes’ Memorial and then for the display of the World War II artillery position. |

Legend has it that this is where General Jellachich of the Imperial Army, who was intent on crushing the revolution for Hungarian independence but was defeated in the battle here, stood in September 1848. The statue symbolises the Hungarian hussar, intending to immortalise the heroism and courage of the Hungarian soldier, who, standing on the scene of the triumphant battle, also represents the victorious Hungarian soldier, holding a flag for victory in one hand and resting his other hand on his sword to express his readiness to defend his homeland at any time. |

The rugged dolomite hills are home to a variety of rare plant and animal species, and have interesting geological features. The shadoofs, herds of grey cattle, the farm buildings, and the region’s abundant aquatic wildlife evoke the atmosphere of the Alföld plain. Vörösmarty Cellar |
This simple building complex with a reed-thatched roof, which was once connected to a vineyard and owned by the 19th-century poet Mihály Vörösmarty, stands on the corner of Panoráma and Csongor Streets leading to Bence Hill. Born in Kápolnásnyék, Mihály Vörösmarty spent his childhood and the last years of his life here. He wrote many of his poems here and was often inspired by the beauty of the landscape. The spritzer, wine diluted with soda, is a very popular drink in Hungary today and was given its Hungarian name fröccs by Vörösmarty. In the 19th century, this beverage was a novelty and Vörösmarty enthuses over the “pearly beads rising upward in the wine” in his poem “Song of Fót”. The cellar and the fröccs terrace are open to the public periodically. On such occasions, you can enjoy a unique gastronomic experience. |
Vörösmarty Memorial House and Laura Csajághy Stage |
The exhibition presents the life and career of Hungary’s famous 19th-century poet and the history of the Vörösmarty cult that began almost at the moment of his death through the most important documents related to him. |
The exhibition, rearranged for the bicentenary of the poet’s birth, evokes the atmosphere of the Biedermeier period in the 19th century. |
The furnishings, furniture and objects in the rooms are similar to those that were present in Vörösmarty’s everyday life. Although few of the pieces displayed belonged originally to the poet, his desk with manuscript versions of his famous poem “Appeal” (Szózat), an inlaid chest of drawers, which he inherited from his family, and a cobalt blue dish decorated with small dots and flowers are on show here. |
The memorial house is only accessible on foot or by bike from Vörösmarty Street, which starts in the centre of the village, as the level crossing at the railway line which bisects the street is for pedestrians only. |
The Laura Csajághy Stage was named after Vörösmarty’s wife and muse, and is located behind the Vörösmarty Memorial House. The open-air stage is used for theatrical and dance performances and concerts during the summer season. |
